Ferrying the Strait of Hormuz

Day 6 : Strait of Hormuz

Did you know you can cross the strait of Hormuz for $125 (return) with a 75kg luggage allowance? And you can bring along your car. Families visiting or working in the UAE from Iran frequent this route. Once you start the voyage you get a sense that you heading off to a foreign country, the preferred language choice changes to Farsi and families organise themselves into male-female separate groups.  Dinner was offered before we set sail at 9 pm and lights were dimmed by 11 pm for night time travel. Since there were half the number of passengers on-board, we were spoilt with seat options that allowed us to stretch out over a few seats to sleep comfortably.

With a full moon chartering the way, it was setting the tone for the actual start of the journey.

The next morning one sensed the excitement on-board as we approached Bandar Abbas; the children are cleaned and changed into new outfits to meet their families at arrival and the ladies donned the black chador or abaya but not without a fresh coat of lipstick 😉

Clearing immigration was pretty straight forward as we only had our hand luggage, 5 duffel bags, for everyone else is was a matter of clearing their respective 75kgs! Once our car was released from the ship a local agent,  recommended to us by one of the ship hands, helped clear our vehicle through customs. Since it was a Friday, we could only register it for road travel in Iran the next morning.  Serous, the agent and his brother Sabr were of the first Iranians we met, with very little English and a translation app, they made the formalities a manageable process to complete.  By the next morning the last of the paper was completed and we finally get to start our adventure!
